Not to be confused with U.S. Earth Day, International Earth Day is always celebrated on the Vernal Equinox, when spring is sprung! It was first created in September of 1969, when a gentleman named John McConnell of Iowa went before the San Francisco Board of Supervisors with an unusual–but heartfelt–proposal: A proclamation must be initiated that would make us “Earthlings” aware of the part each of us plays in saving our planet!
According to Mr. McConnell, each of Earth’s inhabitants bears a strong responsibility to take care of the planet by all means necessary, and he believed in this theory so strongly that he wrote the Earth Day Proclamation in 1970, and it was signed by then-UN General Secretary U Thant on March 21, 1971!
How can we all do our small part in keeping alive the spirit of Earth Day (also known as Sun-Earth Day)? Recycling is a great start! Things we might normally think of as trash can have a second life through “re-purposing”! Party Fiesta Balloon Decor recycles materials faithfully to help conserve resources and, of course, uses only the finest biodegradable latex balloons from Qualatex!
So, on this Earth Day, do just one thing to be kind to Planet Earth…and Planet Earth will be kind to us!
