Who stands eight feet/two inches tall, lives in a cozy nest behind 123 Sesame Street and is forever a sweet six-year-old? “Big Bird,” of course–the best friend of children literally all over the world!
Ever since this lovable giant first hit TV screens on the premiere episode of “Sesame Street” in 1969, “Big Bird” has been the sensation of children’s television on public broadcasting…and then the whole planet discovered this adorable avian hero! That’s why “Big Bird”‘s birthday on March 20th is celebrated by children of all ages in nearly every country of the world!
And why not? After all, this is one exceptionally-talented bird! Among his many gifts, “Big Bird” has a knack for drawing, writing poetry, singing, dancing, roller skating, ice skating and even riding a unicycle! Is there no end to what this darling dude can do?!
And besides being the darling of the whole world, “Big Bird” is a pretty popular fella in his own neighborhood! “Oscar,” his “nest-door neighbor,” may be a grouch, but he’ll always crawl out of his trash-can abode to wish a happy birthday to his buddy! “Big Bird” also branches out when it comes to attracting friends–his best friend is “Mr. Snuffleupagus” (“Snuffy” to those in the know!), and he is very attached to his teddy bear, “Radar”!
Not to mention the rest of the “Sesame Street” gang: “Elmo,” “Cookie Monster,” “Bert,” “Ernie” and all of the neighborhood pals–human and Muppet! With friends like this, who wouldn’t want to live on “Sesame Street”?!
As “Big Bird” always says, asking questions is a good way of finding things out, and, on his special day, we’ve found out a lot of things about “Big Bird”–especially that we love him! Happy birthday, “Big Bird”!
